Gilles Thomas started riding at a very young age and quickly performed in competitions. In 2012, being only 14yo, he won the gold medal with the Belgian team at the European Children's Championships in Ebreichsdorf, Austria. Four years later, he once again proved all his talent with his double individual and team victory in Ireland at Millstreet, during the European Junior Championships on his mare Indiana VH Kapelhof (Chatman). Still in 2016, he was named Belgium’s Young Talent of the Year. In 2023, after having emerged at the highest level the previous two years, he was crowned Belgian Senior champion in Lanaken, riding the superb Ermitage Kalone, a young nine-year-old stallion. He continues his rise with a very impressive 2024 season and was selected to represent his country at the Paris Olympics Games.
What a year to remember: Gilles has simply been outstanding. Winner of the Grand Prix in Paris and New York with his top horses Ermitage Kalone and Qalista DN, he also secured his first international medals — team gold and individual bronze, finishing just behind Germany’s Richard Vogel and Great Britain’s Scott Brash.
