Born in Warendorf, Rhineland, he chose early on to devote his life to horses. After growing up between football pitches and show jumping arenas alongside his father, he graduated from business school before entering Germany’s highly competitive equestrian sport system.
Inspired in his youth by Ludger Beerbaum, he gradually became his right-hand man. In 2012, he joined the Riesenbeck stable as a young horse trainer and quickly progressed to become one of the team’s key figures. Riding horses such as Limonchello NT, Colestus, Chianti’s Champion, Cool Down 7, Nice van’t Zorgvliet, Mumbai van de Moerhoeve and Checker 47, he has enjoyed some of the most significant successes of his career.
Christian claimed his first 5* Grand Prix victory in Rome in 2022, having made his senior championship debut at the European Championships in Riesenbeck in 2021, where he earned team silver and finished fourth individually. In 2023, he participated as a reserve at the European Championships in Milan. That same year, he made his debut at the FEI Jumping World Cup™ Final in Leipzig and helped Germany secure victory in the Nations Cup Final in Barcelona. He also went on to win three CSI3* Grand Prix with Checker in Riyadh, Wellington and Madrid.
Christian Kukuk has turned his passion for horses into an exceptional career, rising to the very top of international show jumping through talent and determination.
Crowned individual Olympic champion at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games with Checker 47, he continued his outstanding form in 2025 by winning the first Rolex Series event of the year in Wellington, achieving back-to-back victories at the venue. He also claimed the Grand Prix of London with the same horse and finished second with the German team in the Nations Cup at Spruce Meadows. To conclude the season, Christian placed sixth in the IJRC Top 10 Final at the CHI Geneva.
