Gilles Thomas started riding at a very young age and quickly distinguished himself in competition. In 2012, at just 14 years old, he won the gold medal with the Belgian team at the European Children’s Championships in Ebreichsdorf, Austria. Four years later, he once again demonstrated his talent by claiming both individual and team gold at the European Junior Championships in Millstreet, Ireland, riding his mare Indiana VH Kapelhof (Chatman). Later that year, he was named Belgium’s Young Talent of the Year.
In 2023, after emerging at the highest level over the previous two seasons, he was crowned Belgian Senior Champion in Lanaken aboard the outstanding Ermitage Kalone, then a nine-year-old stallion. He continued his ascent with an impressive 2024 season and was selected to represent Belgium at the Paris Olympic Games.
The 2025 season proved to be one to remember, as Gilles Thomas delivered a series of outstanding performances. Victorious in the Grand Prix of Paris and New York with his top horses Ermitage Kalone and Qalista DN, he also secured his first senior international medals at the European Championships in La Coruña, winning team gold and individual bronze, finishing just behind Germany’s Richard Vogel and Great Britain’s Scott Brash. To conclude the year in style, Gilles placed fourth in the IJRC Top 10 Final at the CHI Geneva.
