Former World No. 1 and Olympic athlete Harrie Smolders has followed an unconventional path to success. From humble beginnings in the Netherlands, he has overcome the odds in pursuit of his ambition to become one of the world’s leading show jumpers, guided by the belief that hard work and dedication are essential to turning dreams into reality. Now one of the most respected horsemen in the sport, Harrie Smolders is also a highly regarded trainer, renowned for his tact, skill and sensitivity, enabling those he works with to fulfil their maximum potential. His sporting record is extensive, spanning European and World Championships, Olympic Games, Nations Cups and FEI Jumping World Cup™ competitions, with both team and individual honours.
After finishing on the podium 14 times without a victory in CSI5* Grand Prix events, Harrie Smolders finally claimed a landmark win in December 2024 at the CHI Geneva with Monaco. Riding the same horse, he went on to secure victories in the prestigious Grand Prix events at Cannes and Riesenbeck. In the Rolex Grand Prix at Dinard, he finished second, just behind Aaron Vale of the United States. In December 2025, he placed fifth with Monaco in the IJRC Top 10 Final at the Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping in Geneva, marking a highly successful year for the Dutch rider.
