John Whitaker

John Whitaker is one of the most iconic figures in the history of world show jumping. Born in 1955 in Yorkshire, he belongs to the famous Whitaker family, a true dynasty of British equestrian sport. Since making his international debut in the 1970s, he has inspired several generations of riders through his exceptional longevity, technical ability, and unique talent for creating partnerships with legendary horses.

His name will forever be linked to Milton, one of the most famous horses in show jumping history. With this exceptional grey horse, John Whitaker won the individual gold medal at the 1989 European Show Jumping Championships, as well as individual silver and team bronze medals at the 1990 FEI World Equestrian Games. The partnership between this rider and horse has become one of the most iconic in equestrian sport.

Throughout his career, John Whitaker has achieved some of the greatest international successes. He won the FEI Jumping World Cup Final twice, claimed the prestigious King George V Gold Cup at Hickstead on three occasions, and won the famous Hickstead Derby four times. He also collected numerous medals with the British team, including a team silver medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics with Ryan’s Son.
