Marcus started riding at the age of seven with his sister at a riding school. He had his ups and downs, but right from the start he showed determination, whatever his mount. He was German Pony Champion with Bright Ruby and double European Pony Champion in 1990 and 1991 with Starlight. The success continued after the switch to horses, with Marcus winning four gold medals at the European Junior and Young Rider Championships over a period of five years with three different horses, Orchidee, Opium and Talan. Opium was to be the partner of his first successes as a Senior, with forty victories including the Nations Cup and the Warsaw Grand Prix. Already an international rider, Marcus Ehning reached the highest level with the stallion For Pleasure, who joined his stables at the end of 1998. With him, he was crowned Olympic team champion in Sydney in 2000. In 2003, 2006 and 2010, the German triumphed in the final of the World Cup circuit. His cracks, such as Noltes Küchengirl, Sandro Boy and Plot Blue, then Cornado, Comme Il Faut and Prêt A Tout, enabled one of the greatest riders of all time to pursue his art. Now retired, his former cracks have made way for the efficient Stargold, who enabled him to win the Aachen 5* Grand Prix for the third time on July 2, 2023, as well as Priam du Roset and Coolio 52, two precious assets in his stable.
