Ben Maher Claims Victory in the First Qualifier for the Rolex US Equestrian Open Grand Prix.

The action ramped up during Week 12 of the Winter Equestrian Festival 2025 with the $116,100 FEI 5* Adequan® WEF Challenge Round 12 — a thrilling qualifier for Saturday’s Rolex US Equestrian Open Grand Prix.

60 Starters, 16 in the Jump-Off

Out of 60 riders who tackled the technical course, 24 delivered clear rounds, earning their spot in the jump-off. Among them was crowd favorite McLain Ward with Callas, adding to the anticipation. However, 8 riders chose not to returnfor the second round, leaving 16 combinations, representing 7 nations, to battle it out for the win.

Alessandra Volpi Sets the Pace

Germany’s Rene Dittmer was the first to qualify for the jump-off with Corsica, posting a confident clear round early on. However, he opted not to return for the final round, making Alessandra Volpi (USA) and Candy Luck Z the first to enter the ring. She set a strong pace with a fast double clear in 41.12 seconds, immediately raising the stakes for the remaining competitors.

The Lead Changes Hands

Aaron Vale and Carissimo 25, third to go, shaved over a second off the leading time, clocking in at 40.04 seconds. But it was Kent Farrington (USA) who turned up the heat with Toulayna. Seventh in the order, he blazed through the course in 38.75 seconds, taking the lead — a time that would ultimately earn him second place overall in the class.

Ben Maher Seals the Win

Closing out the class in spectacular style, Ben Maher (GBR) and Point Break delivered a masterful round, combining precision and speed to stop the clock at 37.60 seconds, claiming victory in this thrilling five-star qualifier.
