On Thursday, August 7, the iconic RDS Main Arena in Dublin delivered another electric afternoon of sport with the CSIO5* Cashel Palace Hotel Stakes (1.60m) — the second chance for riders to secure their ticket to Sunday’s Rolex Grand Prix of Ireland.
With 47 horse-and-rider combinations on the start list, the course proved both technical and unforgiving. Early rounds saw several faults, including from Swiss rider Martin Fuchs, who opened the class with a rail down aboard Fortjump du Beaumenil. It wasn’t until Rodrigo Pessoa and Major Tom entered the ring that the first clear round was finally posted, setting the tone for a thrilling finish.
But it was Ireland’s own Jordan Coyle, riding Chaccolino, who lit up the arena. After a confident and fast clear in the first round, Coyle returned for the jump-off and delivered a bold, flawless round in 37.19 seconds, enough to secure the win in front of an ecstatic home crowd.
McLain Ward (USA) and Imperial HBF followed with a polished clear in 38.56, placing them second, while Pessoa’s double clear in 41.18 rounded out the podium.
Coyle’s win not only earned him a spot in the Rolex Grand Prix of Ireland but also confirmed his form as one of the home favourites heading into the weekend’s feature event. The stage is now set for a thrilling finale on Sunday.
